Pappas Restaurants is a well-known culinary group in the Houston area, but their steakhouse is probably among their most highly regarded establishments. Here, you can enjoy many cuts of beef, even ones that have been dry-aged for 28 days. Although Pappas Bros Steakhouse keeps it simple in terms of menu selection, their UDSA Prime Beef, including their 14-ounce Bone-In Filet Mignon from Emporia, Kansas, is not to be missed! Add some Au Gratin Potatoes to that, and you’ll be in absolute heaven.

The Ostiones Asados, or the wood-roasted Gulf oysters dripping in chipotle butter and topped with cheese and toasted bread crumbs, at coastal Mexican haunt Caracol is a culinary effort of beauty. The popular Houston hotspot also offers Ostiones en su Concha, which pays homage to a more traditional Mexican flavor profile with salsa bruja and lime. If oysters aren’t necessarily your thing, the raw bar at Caracol is all-around excellent with its red snapper, tuna, shrimp, and more!
The fajita that sparked a national phenomenon at The Original Ninfa’s.
“Mama” Ninfa Laurenzo first started grilling skirt steak and stuffing it inside tortillas to save her family’s struggling tortilla factory. Those “tacos al carbon” later became widely known as “fajitas,” a dish which her namesake restaurant, The Original Ninfa’s, has been perfecting since 1973. Though many have tried, the legendary sizzling hot fajitas at Ninfa’s cannot be outdone. Choose from beef or chicken, which come with all the fixings, including flour tortilla, pico de gallo, guacamole, and chile con queso.

A kolach, or kolác, is a Czech specialty, consisting of a pastry that holds a portion of fruit surrounded by puffy dough. Kolaches, or klobásník, on the other hand, is the American Czech community’s interpretation of this classic Central European delicacy. Kolaches are similar to sausage rolls, but the meat is wrapped in a spun dough similar to that of the kolác. Since 1956, The Original Kolache Shoppe has been whipping up both kolác with sweet fillings and klobásník with a selection of sausage, cheese, and jalapeño to appeal to the Lone Star’s Czech belt and all of its culinary “stans.”
