Help Eradicate Breast Cancer – and Have Fun Doing It – During Komen Houston Race for the Cure
Join the fight against breast cancer at the 29th Annual Komen Houston Race for the Cure on Saturday, October 5! Run or walk alongside neighbors and friends as you raise awareness for breast cancer and help promote its elimination. Don’t miss this fun-filled event this weekend!
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Series is the largest, most successful education and fundraising event for breast cancer in the world. Breast cancer patients, those living with metastatic breast cancer, survivors, family members, supporters of the cause and all Houstonians are invited to come together for a 5K or 1K, followed by a morning of festivities, all while taking action in the fight against breast cancer.
Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast tissue divide and grow without normal control. It is a widespread and random disease, striking women and men of all ages and races. It is estimated that more than 1.6 million new cases of breast cancer occurred among women worldwide in 2010. The exact cause of the disease is unknown, and currently, there is no cure.
This race serves as a powerful vehicle to spread the lifesaving message of early detection and raise funds to help end breast cancer. Most of the funds raised will help fund breast health screening, treatment, and education in the Greater Houston area. The remaining funds go towards the Komen Research, Evaluation and Scientific Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research.
Komen Houston serves as the Greater Houston leader in the fight against breast cancer by identifying community needs and priorities through a Community Assessment and then working to identify and implement the most effective programs and efforts to make a significant impact.
Komen Houston is committed to finding effective solutions across the continuum of care, attacking breast cancer from all sides – including preventative care, diagnostic tests, and treatment support and cutting-edge research.
